Online recommerce retailer, musicMagpie, has partnered with leading cloud and digital services provider, ANS, to provide an Azure managed cloud and DevOps service, which will lay the foundations for the company’s digital growth as it brings new propositions to the market.
The online retailer, specialising in the recommerce of consumer technology, prides itself on being the smart, sustainable and trusted way to buy, rent and sell consumer tech. It has over six million customers, who it has paid out hundreds of millions to. It also has an excellent Trustpilot rating with over 183,000 reviews and is the world’s number one transactional reseller on eBay and Amazon.
musicMagpie was aiming to modernise its legacy infrastructure by re‐building in Azure and building the foundations for ambitious plans to further enhance its business and its customers’ experience. Moving to Azure has enabled musicMagpie to be more agile and responsive than ever before, while allowing it to flexibly and easily scale up, according to demand.
Using ANS’ Cloud Start Accelerator, musicMagpie now has complete visibility and control of its applications, being able to sharply focus on all points of interaction with its customers. Key to the modernisation project is also adopting cloud native application architectures that will provide the capability musicMagpie requires to move forward with its digital strategy at pace.
With this architecture in place, the musicMagpie team can now build a culture centred around DevOps practices. Terraform will also allow the online retailer to build and release faster and will provide consistent support going forward, by ensuring best practice and security are built into every service it introduces for its customer.
Since using modern architecture for the checkout on their website, musicMagpie has already seen a significant commercial return.
musicMagpie was looking for a partner that could help it build an internal DevOps centre of excellence and grow in cloud, while still providing the security and governance expected from its customers. Leveraging ANS’ expertise as a certified Azure Expert MSP, the IT team plans to invest in their own learning and attend ANS’ bootcamps to immerse themselves in a new digital culture.
David Hilton, Group Chief Technology Officer at musicMagpie said, “Working with ANS to modernise our application stack is going to assist us greatly as we continue to grow as a business and introduce new initiatives to our customers. When we engaged with ANS, we were impressed with the way the team approached the project by providing not only knowledge and expertise in cloud and DevOps, but by also committing to educate our in‐house team. We really valued working together to find a solution that would bring the most value for our business and would support our ambitious plans for the future.”
ANS Technical Director, Joe Wolski added, “We’re excited to partner with such an established retailer such as musicMagpie. Their ambitions for future digital growth are now one step closer by moving into cloud and adopting DevOps practices. We’re delighted to support them on their journey and to work with such a forward‐thinking organisation.”
